Russ's Review of Hogue Mossberg 500 OverMolded Shotgun Stock - 12" L.O.P. 05030

This is an Entry Stock, having a short length of pull combined with excellent strength and texture. Such shorter fixed stocks are mentioned as for use with body armor or heavy clothing but I am about 5-11 with average arms if not a bit longer. I love this stock as it keeps the shotgun (Mossberg 590A1) solid and shorter overall. I see this shotgun as for indoors and "urban" use in and around buildings. Some guys say it puts your thumb too close to your nose, but I feel that is more of an initial experience issue. Handling becomes automatic with repetition. Additionally, it is a light stock as the 590A1 is already "Chonky" as I hear that term these days, and she doesn't need extra weight. The Choate +1 mag tube is fine with aftermarket follower and not that long orange thing it comes with. I also avoid sidesaddles, bandolier slings and obviously the Speed-Feed stock. The tactical shotgun needs to stay slick to move around - to handle easily. Mine have an under-barrel light mount but that would be only for 100% non 2-legged critter use. I see (pun intended) the light as pure bullet magnet. Back on point - Hogue is a name for the ages for the hobby - and this LOP Stock deserves a try. Maybe not for everyone but that comes down only to preference - the stock fits, is well-made and for me is a great addition.
Pros:
  • Hogue quality. Makes Shotgun better.
Cons:
  • Short - but by design!
Best Used for:
  • Tactical shotgun. Close and fast.
