A dot that i wanted to love but fell short of expectations - Holosun HE508T-GR-X2 1x 2 MOA Dot Green Dot Sights

I was initially excited to purchase this dot because of the green color and variety of options that competitors do not have. However, when I opened the box, I was disappointed to find that there was a total lack of protective coating inside of the optic housing, leaving the bare metal prone to oxidization. On the surface, it would appear a small issue; however, since it is going on a duty handgun, it will constantly be exposed to the elements. The same first optic had spotty glue around the lens and a solar panel on the top that appeared rather lopsided.

I had exchanged the optic, 1-for-1 for the same, only to receive one in worse condition. Small dents in the metal on the front of the optic were present. On the lens, what appeared to be a smear was actually an aberration inside the lens that took up almost the entire left side and was very distracting. All of the same QC issues on the first one appeared on the second, namely regarding the coating and glue.

It's a shame to have to type this review because of the optic's potential. A titanium housing, crisp green dot, solar charging and reticle options are all attractive features not found in other similar optics. But when it is presented so poorly, one has to wonder what else Holosun QC might have missed that will show itself when my life will come to depend on the dot. I am not willing to wait and find out.
