bafflingbs's Review of Holosun HS510C 1x0.91-1.2in Open Reflex Red Dot Sight

First off, I have an astigmatism. Almost every red dot appears as a washed out star to me. AimPoint and Trijicon aren’t too bad, but, still noticeable. Even the vaulted, Primary Arms prism optics, in green, has a ghosting appearance to me. In red, or off, the image is fine. But green is messy. But even then, a magnifier is either too difficult to use, or not compatible with the prism. Enter Holosun. This optic is extremely advanced! Like the PA Cyclops, it has a shake awake feature, which greatly extends its battery life. It also provides an always ready convenience, which can be a difference of life or death. Now, while I’d prefer an etched reticle, like the Cyclops, for a multitude of reasons, it also has to be clear, and be able to work well with magnification. Trijicon ACOG’s are fantastic, but, at 4 or 5 times the cost, not feasible. And, I prefer my home defense weapon to be with no magnification. The QD magnifiers are perfect for the range, but heavy and an obstruction, for a CQB situation. There is a downside, however. If you plan on using the auto adjust setting, it gets washed out with a weapon light, so you’ll have to store it bright enough to overcome that deficiency. That’s where the etched reticle of prism’s really shine. Pun not intended
Pros:
  • very bright
  • parallax free
  • Extremely rugged
  • astigmatism friendly
  • Super clear reticle
  • night vision settings
  • solar fail-safe
  • 20-50k hour battery life
  • great with magnification
  • extremely large reticle
  • almost perfect
  • half inch MOA
Cons:
  • Made in China
  • almost perfect
  • auto adjust easily washed out
  • no etched glass
Best Used for:
  • Range
  • magnification
  • people with astigmatisms
