DOC's Review of Huntworth Matterhorn Heat Boost Heavyweight Waterproof Lined Hunting Jacket - Men's

At the end of rifle season, I purchased the Matterhorn Heat Boost Heavyweight Waterproof Lined Hunting Jacket based on a recommendation from a trusted friend. I have done several muzzleloader hunts in temperatures in the teens, some on windy days. My core has stayed warm on all hunts, but for some reason my arms were a bit chilly. I wish the arms on this jacket were bigger. If you are muscular (I’m not), the arms could be too tight. I have enough room for a thin base layer and a mid-layer. I was previously using a wool middle layer, but it does not work with this jacket, so I now use a Spider mid-layer (it is smoother and slides into the jacket sleeves easier).

The jacket is quieter than most heavyweight waterproof jackets, but still made more noise than I expected, but I am overly critical about noise. Moving cautiously kept thing silent enough to kill two deer, three hours apart, during the same morning hunt. I plan to hunt late season archery, and the area that I hunt is so thick that 20 yards is the longest shot I will be able to take, so that will be the real test for quietness.

The number of pockets and their location is awesome. I wish more clothing sold as “hunting gear” put more thought into where the pockets are located.

As A bonus I eliminated the need for hand muffs and anytime you can reduce the number of items you need to fool with, the better.

I also have the matching bibs and I’m even more impressed with them. The bibs and the jacket worn together fit really well and close up all gaps for air to get between layers.

Overall, I like the product and would purchase it all over again.
Pros:
  • warm
  • very comfortable
  • Quiet
  • Well thought out pocket locations
  • Hand pockets are warm which allowed me to eliminate hand muffs
Cons:
  • Arms could be bigger around to allow a wool mid-layer
Best Used for:
  • Cold weather hunting
