Larry's Review of Laserlyte RL-XD/XDM Rear Laser Sight
1. our local gunsmith said to return the slide to Springfield Armory to have the original sight removed in that the original sight was mounted using a hydraulic press. I contacted Springfield Armory who did not confirm or deny this but did say they would remove the original sight free of charge and I only had to pay for the shipping both ways (return shipping to me was quoted to be $10). I was going to do that until:
2. My friend bought the Glock version for his G19 9mm. He was able to have the original sight removed and the Laserlyte put on locally by a gunsmith. The Lasersight failed within 50 rounds. The button would not work. The Laserlyte was replaced free by the gun dealer. The second one failed within 30 rounds.
So now I am afraid to return the XD slide to Springfield Armory to remove the original sight then have the Laserlyte fail as my friend experienced. Most of the reviews we read were very favorable so this could have been an anomaly - but I saw it first hand twice. His gun is a Glock 19 9mm so it does not have a super recoil. Needless to say, were were both very disaapointed as we liked everything about the Laserlyte.
Pros: Nice idea, easy on/off, has pulse setting
Cons: Main one is gunsmith said to return slide to manufacturer
