Great concept that should work great--if everything works right. Unit came with recoil spring too weak to consistently return G17 gen4 to battery. Lasermax customer service was great, sent me two heavier replacement springs and new captivators. Gun function problem is now fixed, but laser is aligned too high, throwing rounds 6" low at 50 feet. Gotta now send it back to Lasermax for realignment. Hopefully it'll work out. Tension on on/off switch seems insufficient as laser sometimes goes on or off while shooting without touching the switch. I'll try bending the slide lock spring to increase tension, maybe that'll work. I want this thing to work because it's a great concept but I'm not there yet. The native green laser is more bluish and not as brilliant as the conventional green lasers from Viridian or Streamlight, but still quite visible. Cost of ownership may be high as recoil spring and battery cap should be replaced every few thousand rounds, and new batteries are expensive. Crimson Trace Lasergrip is far more cost effective (cheaper, free batteries, user adjustable), with the advantage of instinctive activation, but the disadvantages of changed grip shape and point of aim shift with changes in grip pressure.
Pros: ingenious concept, great customer service, consistent alignment, no effect on gun profile
Cons: came misaligned and with defective parts and not as bright as conventional green lasers
