Lasermax still needs to work out the design bugs - LaserMax Guide Rod Laser Sight for Heckler & Koch

The laser guide rod for the H&K VP9 is a new product for LaserMax. I don't believe that it's ready for prime time. The unit I received had a few problems. First, the take-down lever fit is not great. It slides into the frame OK, but it does not fully rotate to horizontal when closed. There is a slot on top meant to mate with a tab protrusion on the H&K frame, but the tab does not completely fit into the slot. This may have something to do with the next issue. The laser ON switch is not reliable. You can't just flick it on. It must be carefully rotated to the 90 degree down position and held for a second for the laser to come on. However, the switch itself can rotate about 30 degrees past that point and if you over shoot the the laser doesn't shine. Also, even when positioned to to 90 degrees, dry fire caused the switch to jiggle and the laser to shut off. This makes the laser an absolute non-starter for tactical situations where 100% reliability is a requirement. LaserMax customer service recommended that I try a second one to see if I had a birth defect. Since the H&K version is a new model they haven't had any customer feedback as yet. I will oblige and let them know what happens so they will have a second data point. One last point: the return spring is extremely heavy and 'chunky'; it seems much stiffer that the H&K OEM part but I haven't measured it or fired with it.
