I bought a Remington 870 Express, 18" dual pistol gripped shotgun for home defense. Because it doesn't have a stock I wanted an aiming point in case I didn't necessarily have time to bring the shotgun up to cheek level. Not only does this have a BRIGHT LED, it also has a pulsating red dot laser sight. This is truly the best of both worlds, and it saved me from buying a saddle mount, optics, lasers, etc. all seperately.
Installation was a breeze. I had it on in fifteen minutes, no problems. It clamps underneath the barrel to the magazine tube with some hex head screws that are included, as well as the wrenches to tighten and a secondary, smaller set to adjust for windage and height. This is strictly a home defense shotgun, so I haven't messed around with those. Factory settings are absolutely perfect for me.
To describe the performance, this baby is BRIGHT. I've got a 20-25 foot hallway and in pitch dark, when I turn this light on, EVERYTHING is illuminated. Probably brighter than the home lights I have were I to compare. Worst case scenario someone breaks in, there's not going to be any confusion. You're going to see them clearly. The red light is strong, large enough to see from a distance and it pulsates on target. I thought it was strange at first but it really helps in target aquisition more than just a steady red beam.
Under stress, this is a system built to last. Everything is enclosed and protected in a steel casing. It sticks out a little bit on the flashlight side, but not enough to be a distraction. If you have a small case, it might not fit. As far as performance under stress, I use a lot of low-recoil buckshot around the house. I fired a few rounds, didn't even phase the light. Switched over to regular buckshot, nothing. I even tried a heavy duty slug just for fairness in testing and I'm fairly certain I'd break a wrist before breaking this light. It's built to last.
Honestly, I couldn't recommend anything else. This is everything I was looking for and more in a low-key drop-in package. If you have a Remington for home defense, this is all you'll ever need for optics and target aquisition.
Pros: Everything I ever wanted.
Cons: None so far.
