Michigander's Review of UTG Pro 2-7x44mm 30 mm Tube Scout Rifle Scope, Second Focal Plane
Though on the heavier side the features for the price are outstanding.
Sadly most rifle scopes, no matter which brand, really have too short of an eye relief (especially at higher magnification). On high-caliber rifles this means risk of getting whacked by the scope. On AR-style rifles this could mean the scope requires higher scope rings to clear folding back-up iron sights or no back-up iron sights.
I prefer my scopes to be as close to the barrel as possible which means if I want to use lower scope rings to keep that scope as low as possible then I need to sacrifice iron sights. But not with this scope!
The longer (9.5"-11") eye relief coupled with a mil-dot reticle, parallax correction, resettable zero locking turrets and nice large objectives all make for premium scope at a bargain price. I wish they weren't made in China ... but I guess that's how they get them down to that bargain price, right? *sigh*
Optics are clear. Glass-etched reticle is crisp. Controls are positive. The multi-color reticle is cool but not sure of its value just yet as I've only used it on paper so far.
This is the second scope that I have by Leapers/UTG. They have nearly identical features except this one has much longer eye-relief and the other is a 4x-12x. I find both of them to be excellent but haven't had either long enough to say how durable they are. Time will tell. In any case I would likely buy another scope from UTG/Leapers in the future.
