tj41093's Review of Leapers UTG AK47 Combat Butt Pad

I'm still waiting on mine to come in the mail but I have had plenty experience with these in the past and reading some of the other reviews I seen some people are having issues with the recoil pad slipping off. I have a very simple fix for this. Use grip tape. Like skateboard grip tape. You can buy a roll of the stuff for like 10-20 bucks and its very useful. Cut you about a one inch sliver of it and wrap that around the end of your buttstock until the pad fits nice and snug. When it comes to WHICH grip tape to buy, I would buy Jessup grip tape (If they still make it) Cause its not overly abrasive and when it gets worn in which you can do by rubbing it on concrete if you want to, its just the perfect amount of sandpapery. enough to grip well without taring stuff up. HOWEVER grip tape is super adhesive. It COULD damage your buttstock, so if your going to do it, your doing it because you want this recoil pad to be permanently on your stock. Itll come off, but the grip tape probably wont without scuffing the wood up. Some would say that's character but not me.

Your best bet hands down for recoil reduction is to buy a adapter/buffer tube set up to go from AK to AR stocks and then throw a FAB defense GL shock buttstock. Add a ATI scorpion recoil reducing 2 piece AK pistol grip, and a good muzzle break and possibly even one of those power buffer things to put in your receiver. I promise you'll have the finest AK on the range to shoot. Peak pleasure. Especially on milled AK's.
Pros:
  • Bigger surface area for contact on shoulder
  • reduces felt recoil slightly
  • More ergonomic
Cons:
  • kind of ugly
  • slippery fitment
  • requires some inventiveness
Best Used for:
  • AK's with WOODEN stocks
Would Recommend: Yes
