NinthGen's Review of Leapers UTG 400 Lumen Compact LED Weapon Light

I expected a minimum level of quality from items on Optics Planet. Apparently not so. If you are looking for weapon lights, skip all Leapers products. Bought it on April 5 with 3-day shipping. It shipped April 7 and it arrived April 14. Now as for the product....

Looks good from about 3 feet away. The release lever to open the battery door required excessive force to clear the mating tab on the battery door. Finally got it open and installed the batteries. Flipped the switch - no light. Checked the batteries, verified they were installed correctly - no light. Got it home and tested battery voltage - they were good. The male battery contact appears to be zinc. I scraped some oxidation off and it still did not work. Played with the batteries one more time and the light came on when I closed the battery door. In a home defense tactical light, not what I am looking for.

Beyond the unit not working (I know, flashlights are a very complicated piece of techonlogy), the tolerances on the battery door are absolute excrement. When the battery door is closed, there is about a 0.5mm gap on half of the gasket sealing surface. I seriously doubt this unit would survive 10 minutes of light rain. The lack of attention to manufacturing tolerances leads me to conclude this company does not know how to manufacture and does not care about quality, or the safety of its customers. Do not buy.
Pros:
  • None.
Cons:
  • Did not work out of the box.
  • Not even water resistant.
  • Obvious lack of care for manufacturing and assembly tolerances.
Best Used for:
  • A projectile.
