Neal's Review of Hi-Lux Optics Malcolm USMC 8x31mm Sniper Rifle Scope, Vintage Sniper Legal, 3/4in Tube, Second Focal Plane
Received the scope a couple days ago. Installed it on my USMC PROPERTY marked CMP Rem. 40x. The scope mounted and the eye relief and parallax adjusted to my satisfaction with no problems. The threads on the AO are stiff and a little gritty and the tube does not slide very smoothly through the rings. Being on a .22lr, recoil is not an issue, so I'm not gonna gripe much about that. I adjusted it down from 200 to 50 yards with no parallax but will probably move it back to 200 for our club's monthly 200 yard comp. and leave it at that. I wish now however, that I had paid more attention and ordered the Edition II as the micrometer elevation and windage adjustments are pretty mushy on this one and I read that those on the edition II are more tactile. I use the existing blocks on my rifle which caused the mounting blocks to be about 10 1/2" center to center which, according to my calculations, makes the adjustments .180 MOA per click. I also read about "soft" screws but I will not be doing a lot of tweaking screws. Once I have the scope set up for actual range use, it will just get minor windage and elevation adjustments while shooting. All in all I'm satisfied with the value vs cost aspect and so far, I'm happy with the scope if it performs well on my rifle.
Pros:
- solidly constructed, better glass than Unertl
Cons:
- Adjustments not real tactile
