Bryce's Review of Leica Magnus i 1.8-12x50 Rifle Scope

I bought this for a varmint/predator hunting rifle. For lamping, I wanted a clear, light gathering scope with a large field of view, and illuminated reticle. The reticle illumination is the best I've seen. There are 60 settings from daylight bright down to near nothing. The switch allows you to easily program a day setting, and a night setting, allowing you 3 positions of the switch: Day-Off-Night. The auto-off features works perfectly, and conserves your battery in case you intentionally, or unintentionally store it in the ON position. I love the magnification range. At 1.8x, I can see the barrel of the gun and can track quickly moving targets with ease. 12x gives you 1000 meter capability. The mechanical precision is what you would expect from a German rifle scope. Perfect tracking and positive clicks, although travel is limited. The duplex reticle is VERY fine, which is undesirable for a low light scope, but the illumination is so good, it makes up for this. Field of view is impressive, visibly wider than my Schmidt and Bender PMII 5-25 set to the same magnification. Clarity is on par with the S&B with a little less purple fringing on high contrast images, and a more forgiving focal length. Eye box is very good, making it easy to acquire sight picture in low light. The compact design looks at home on a carbine or hunting rifle, but will limit fore-and-aft positioning when mounting low on a pic rail.
Pros:
  • field of view
  • Light Gathering
  • Eye Box
  • Illumination Control
  • Camera Quality Glass
  • Crisp Turret Adjustments
Cons:
  • Very Fine Duplex
  • Limited Elevation Adjustment
Best Used for:
  • Low light
  • stalking
  • Lamping
  • Driven Hunts
