Mickey's Review of Leupold FX-II 2.5x28mm Fixed Power Scout Rifle Scope

Mounted the FX-II on my NIB Savage Scout and have journeyed to the range each month since July 2014. From 25 to 200 yards, using this scope to launch 150 rounds of 149 Grain 7.62X51mm Nato M80 has made me one satisfied customer.

One issue is the 3/4" required distange from the bend at the Occular Bell to the back of the rear ring. It causes the Occular End to extend approximately 3/8" over the breach. No amount of movement of the rings along the Weaver Rail can reduce that. It would have been nice to have known about the requirement before purchase, but at this point in time I can say that the FX-II was the right choice, over the Burris 2.75 IER.

The FX-II weighs an ounce more that the Burris, but it's larger diameter lets in more light and allows a greater field of view. Additionally, despite the lack of a focusing ring (for my old eyes), I believe that makes it just a little more rugged than the Burris which can be focused.
Pros:
  • field of view
  • gathers light well
  • appears rugged
Cons:
  • Weight (but expected and accounted for)
  • mounting restriction
  • lack of focusing ring
Best Used for:
  • Scout Rifles
