miravox's Review of Leupold 1x14 Tactical Prismatic Rifle Scope w/ Illuminated Red Circle Plex Reticle
Why buy a 1x scope when you could just use the factory sights? In a word: presbyopia. Once you start having to hold the newspaper out at arms' length to be able to read it, you've lost the ability to focus on the front iron sight. With a scope, the eye's focus can stay simultaneously sharp on the target and the crosshairs; there are no more blurry front and rear sights to degrade your shooting accuracy.
Why buy a prismatic scope instead of a 1x red dot? Batteries are bound to fail you when you need them most -- and tritium-powered illumination is not bright enough to stand out against a sun-washed target without darkening the scope's sight picture in order to provide enough contrast. This Leupold product has an etched reticle -- not just a dot -- that remains focused on the target with or without batteries.
