Legacy Reviewer's Review of Leupold Digital RX-IV Laser Rangefinder Mossy Oak Brush Obsession Finish 61475

I am a novice hunter. I have used my RX-IV as a rangefinder primarily for sighting-in rifles on my mother-in-law's farm. I have had this rangefinder for almost a year now and have used it quite a bit.

I have owned and liked Leupold rifle scopes so when I needed a rangefinder I went with a brand I knew.

The most impressive thing, and the reason I got it, is that it has every feature available for a rangefinder. Granted, there are a lot of things that I'll never use (bow basllistic data, 13 different reticle patterns) but when you don't plan to buy but one in this lifetime, you get the best with everything on it.

I have found the range finding to be consistantly accurate. The compass (available only on the RX-IV model) is accurate and surprisingly handy to have (at least handy to me). The digital temperature gauge is nice but you must have it out in the ambient air for a while to get an accurate reading (don't expect to pull it out of your pocket and get a usable temperature reading right away).

I can't speak to the most advertised feature, True Ballistic Range, because my hunting simply is not sophisticated enough to take advantage of it.

The RV-IV is simple to operate but rather difficult, at first, to adjust or toggle on/off all the features. Like anything else it gets easier with practice. The battery life is excellent; I'm still on the original battery and have used it quite a bit. The 8x optics are excellent and I find myself using the RX-IV at sporting events as monocular more than as a rangefinder.

Overall, the RX-IV is a bit pricey (like all Leupold products) but I have been pleased and, in this case, you get what you pay for.
Pros: All the features available in other rangefinders
Cons: A little pricey
