Heinrich8000's Review of Leupold Mark 4 10x40mm LR/T M3 Rifle Scope w/ Mil Dot Reticle
Even when the magnification is just 10x, the quality of the image and the repeatability are
outstanding. I use it for 50 meters benchrest shooting with .22lr and took it also to the
100 meters range with a Suhl 150 Q1. The result was amazing placing all shots in one hole.
I hit always 10/10 even when it was a challenge for my eye sometimes on 100 meters. You should
also buy the best scope mount available which are Mark 4 rings and BKL 11mm adapters. I see many
people who sell the scope again because they seek for more magnification or picked too cheaply made
scope mounts.... I wanted to do same but didn´t do (for god´s sake). A guy at the range challenged
me on the 100 meters range to do a competition with him and I agreed. I scored 99/100 with my Suhl
and he just grew angry using a Mauser M96 with cheap ammo spreading a lot. Victory brought me the
right selection of ammo by taking the RWS Rifle Match. To take it on larger distances 10x magnification
is indeed a bit too few, so I want to test a Mark 4 in 6,5-20x50. But so far you don´t go really wrong
with that scope being in use of U.S. Military on their M24 SWS. I have been using the Mildot reticle
allowing compensate wind shift. Also don´t get tricked too easily that cheaper brands with more
magnification would bring better results. Quality has it´s price... but for me it´s ok so far.
A real challenge would be to test it on a 308 win. on 300 yards and more but had no time for it
so far. Still, I believe it would be an interesting choice. When being in doubt, you should use
the Mark 4 6,5-20x50. Still one must admit that the Leupold Mark 4 10x40 is one of the few scopes
that have a fast adjustment ring in the M3 version that can help a lot for shooting on larger distances.
If it is possible to hit fast and precisely on large distances I didn´t test so far but it is an option
so far.
