Most Helpful Positive Review Leupold VX-2 1.5-4 X 28MM IER Scout Scope
I installed the Leupold VX-2 1.5X4 X 28mm Scout Scope on a Marlin 1895SBL 45-70 Government. I used Leupold Stainless Quick Release Rings and installed so the scope does not hit the stock ghost ring sight that came with the gun. I sighted in at 25 yards within 2 shots on the target. Moved to 100 yard...

Most Helpful Negative Review Limited eye relief for a Scout scope
This scope was installed on a Winchester 1892. The rail was mounted before the receiver. With the scope in the proper position, it had the proper eye relief on the 1.5 setting. When the scope was at 4 power, the eye relief was limited. You had serious blackout around the edges. Very disappointing. D...

Leopold VX2 1.5 - 4x 28mm IER Scouts Scope

by Al, from MI, United States Written on March 9, 2017
Very good clarity and brightness, works perfectly on my M1A rifle. I can use low Weaver rings on my Bassett mount. The low weight of the setup keeps the weight of the rifle setup under the 10 pound limit for CMP Modern Military classification.
Pros:
  • None
Cons:
  • None for me

Leopold scout plus mount

by Saucy, Verified Owner from GA, United States Written on February 24, 2017
Have not shot it yet but looks like fine glass. Put on Savage 308 scout; seems to have adequate eye relief. After mounting, bore-sighted it, and it barely will sight in vertically. Not sure if this is due to the rifle rail itself or the mount & scope. Will know more when I take it out for a real test drive

Disappointed

by Larry R, from ID, United States Written on April 26, 2016
This is the first time I've been disappointed in a Leupold optic. This article simply doesn't have enough eye relief to really qualify it to be advertised as a "scout" scope. I have two fixed power scout scopes on other rifles and they are great. The variable power is of little practical use past about 2.5X. I mounted it to a Ruger Mini-Thirty on an UltiMak forward rail. I would have to come up with some mounting system that would allow mounting the scope back partly over the ejection port in order for the higher magnification to be useful. That's a no starter for me. Perhaps Leupold should consider marketing this item as something besides a scout type optic.
Pros:
  • None
Cons:
  • Not enough eye relief for scout mounting
Best Used for:
  • Rifles with a closed top receiver that allows mounting closer to the rear
Would recommend: No

Leupold + Warne x Opticsplanet = Perfection

by imijx, from NY, United States Written on April 6, 2016
Recently purchased a NIB 2016 Marlin 1895SBL. After the initial range time with the XS Sights that are standard on this gun, I decided I could use a little more help for my 60 year old eyes past 35 yards. Spent a month or so getting all the info I could about particular scopes and mounts for this lever action 45-70. I have never before even looked thru a scout scope, so it was a bit of a leap of faith when I decided on this Leupold VX-2 1.5-4x28mm IER Scout scope. I also decided the Warne Low Mount QD rings were the way to go with this scope. Opticsplanet had the best price and had both items in stock, so I placed the order and waited a couple of business days for the package. It arrived without incident and, another first for me, I mounted the rings and scope myself after perusing a few YouTube channels, particularly the Warne channel on how to install their excellent QD rings. I must have done something right, because the next time at the range with the new scope and rings, I was almost dead on. Just a few clicks up & left and it was bullseyes at 35 yards. Next up is the outdoor range at 50 and 100 yards, but I have no doubt that the rifle/scope/ring combo will do great.
The Leupold scope is a piece of work. Clarity, even indoors in low light, is excellent. At 1.5x with both eyes open, hitting in the 10 ring was no problem. I felt like I was cheating when I dialed it op to 4x. Eye relief is excellent!! It is mounted just in front of the rear ghostring sight, ...

Leupold IER Variable Scout Scope

by Art, from NJ, United States Written on December 3, 2015
Excellent quality and finish. The glass is bright and crisp. I have mine mounted on a Ruger GSR. The real test comes next week when I go hunting. I've been researching the scope for a while and came close to buying it a few times, and finally pulled the trigger when OP had a 10% off sale. I'm very happy w/ my purchase.

Excellent Eye Relief

by Frank, from PA, United States Written on November 1, 2015
I mounted this on a Marlin 1895 GS using an XS Lever mount. Eye relief is spot on at all power settings if mounted with the power set at 4x. Eye box forgiveness is also excellent - a characteristic common to all Leupold scopes. Great clarity, size, and value. No cons.

High quality as expected from Leupold

by Phillip Brodeur, from NH, United States Written on April 8, 2015
The scope is of high quality as expected with a reasonable price tag for a scout scope. Very bright optic and clear. The only reason I gave it a 4 star is because for a scout scope it only has about 8" of eye relief. Most scout scopes have much more eye relief then this scout scope.Dependng on the scout rifle and the mount system used this scope may not have enough eye relief for many of the set ups people have.

Leupold 1x4x28 Scout Scope

by Pipes, from FL, United States Written on March 24, 2015
I mounted this scout scope forward of the receiver on the rail of my Ruger .308 Gunsite Scout Rifle.
Used the Leupold quick detach mounts.
Zeroed it in and it works great.
Not only is it a great scope but it is American made!
