Dave's Review of Leupold VX-3 1.5-5x20mm Illuminated Rifle Scope
My late friend, Mr. Chuck Hawks, donated this scope and rifle shortly before he passed away about 1.5 years ago. The prior review of this scope indicated that the eye relief was pretty short and apparently very high recoil was the culprit.
My scope is secured with throw-levers and individual bases and the rifle originally came with a slip-on recoil pad. I had removed it and the LOP seemed fine for ME. At least three inches of eye relief. When I replaced the slip-on pad of course there was almost another inch of relief.
I guess that the level of recoil was the culprit in your comment about eye-relief, and so it's just a matter of both good eye-relief and a lighter recoiling cartridge. Even without the pad in place, the eye-relief was quite substantial enough to preclude a semi-circle on my eyebrow given a mild-recoiling .308 and over eight pounds of weight all up.
