HMRT's Review of Lucid Optics L7 1-6x24mm Rifle Scope, 30mm Tube, Second Focal Plane (SFP)
Looking for a "true 1x" power variable scope for both an AR chambered in 7.62x51 (Sig Sauer 716) and 5.56 (LWRC IC-A5). Didn't have a four figure budget. Needed to be able to handle the recoil of the larger round. Be able to quickly and intuitively visualize a target at close range [10-30 yds] (hence the "true 1x") as well as the flexibility to be visually consistent out to 500+ yds. An illuminated reticle that worked for both CQB as well as distance, didn't take up too much real estate on distant targets and wasn't too busy, as well as being etched. Smooth and easy zooming from 1-6x and back. Clear glass with minimal distortion. Rugged. The L7 did alll of these things almost perfectly, considering the price range. The blue reticle really stands out against almost every background. The only reason why it didn't get 5 stars is that in bright daylight the illumination washes out (but to balance that out, I will say the etched reticle remains crisp and clear). It's not a deal breaker but it would be great if Lucid could find a way to increase the brightness at the highest setting. In average to low lighting conditions the illumination is excellent without being overpowering and distracting. Sure, it isn't crystal perfect $3K+ glass, but I'd rate this against the +$1K Vortex, Nikon, Burris, etc. especially for the price tag. A number of far better shooters than I have tried my rig out and were very impressed. I'll be buying another one to run on both rigs. If you don't have $1-2K to spend on a low power scope, five this a try. If you don't like it, I'll buy it from you!
