Hunter's Review of Luna Optics Digital G3 6-36x50mm Day-Night Vision Monocular

Outstanding night optics especially for the price. If your debating on the quality for the price, buy them...I found them much better than I was expecting. I was hesitant about purchasing because I couldn't get my hands on them to view...but took a chance and glad I did. Wanted something better than basic NV monoculars for $100-$300 which I have owned for 12 years and needed to replace because they were failing. And as a retired Army helicopter pilot who has flown over 800 hrs under NVGs, I have a strong understanding of NV goggles and military grade optics. My Gen I's weren't even close to what I flew with and while I was searching for mil quality, I didn't want to spend that kind of money. So after reading the description and a lot of research...I took a chance. While not exactly military grade the viewing quality is UNBELIEVABLE, very close to what I flew with and 10 times better than my 12 year old cheap Gen I monocular. Took me a few times of reading the instructions, memorizing buttons and operating procedures, and after a couple of trial runs I find it very easy to use. Unlike mil NVGs, you do need to use the IR light, but I have not found a reason to use anything but the lowest setting which conserves battery use. I have 2-3 hrs using them so far and the battery says full...time will tell how long I get. Quality of picture is like I said Outstanding. I used my Gen I IR light to find deer eyes deeper in the forest but couldn't tell what it was till it was withing 75-100 yds and even then it was grainy. Now, from the same stand, these optics help me find their eyes but now I can tell you if it's a buck or doe in the forest and how big the rack is with great detail (I can see in there out to 175 yds). Used the camera feature a few times and the pics come out just as good as I see thru the device. Also, the IR light on low setting is so soft deer do not react to being spotlighted with it. On my Gen I it's IR light was significantly more noticable and I always had to use extra caution when spotting deer, especially big bucks. When I viewed and beamed near their head deer would always react and at least look up...big bucks, more negatively...they left in a hurry. So far, which I admit is still early, I have not had a a deer (does and bucks) look up at me. In the end, I can't say it enough...Outstanding night optics and features for the price. The only thing I can find that might be a negative...as you pan a field from side to side it doesn't stay super focused like when holding it still. But, as soon as you stop, it instantly is clear and focused again without needing adjust. Mil grade optics don't do that but these are not mil grade and you are not paying mil grade prices. But for quality of view from a steady rest...it is pretty darn close to mil grade. Great product for a great price...hope I get 10 yrs out of them...but won't know for awhile.
