Hurricane Bill's Review of Lyman Universal Lube Heater
I purchased the Lyman Universal Lube Heater with my RCBS Lube-A-Matic II. The RCBS Lube-A-Matic II is a great reloading tool but the Lyman Universal Lube Heater is a worthless piece of junk that I would never again purchase or recommend to my worst enemy.
My Lyman heater broke after three month and after calls and emails for 2 monthly more Lyman finally replaced my unit. What happened was the electric cable broke where it enters into the Lyman Universal Lube Heater. There's a metal collar that sheared right thru the cable. I'm lucky I was not electrocuted. The metal collar acts like a razor blade severing the electric cord.
I then called Lyman for a replacement. Two month later I received my replacement but of course that unit had the same issue and the electric cord was sheared off right in the same location as my first unit
I then called Lyman again for a 3rd unit which I received today. It seems to be working okay but I will apply tape to the metal collar to make sure I fix the issue before it happens.
Bottom line is the Lyman Heater has issues with the construction and there's nothing we as consumers can do to fix it other then wait for Lyman to take it off the market and do a reconstruction fixing the units from the metal collar cutting thru the cable.
For Lyman if you read this stop selling products that have design flaws in them. You are hurting yourselves by leaving this unit on the market just waiting for someone to be electrocuted where the cable cuts the electric card. Also I would be happy if you want to call me regarding this review.
Follow re-loaders don't waist your money on this Lyman Universal Lube Heater till it has been fixed. RCBS is coming out with their own heater that will have a temp control on it for around $50.00.
Good luck follow re-loaders and now onto whether to powder coat or not....LOL
