Scott S's Review of Magpul Industries PRS GEN3 Precision-Adjustable Stock for AR15/M16 and AR10/SR25 platforms

At 6'4 my long arms like a long length-of-pull (LoP). The Magpul PRS Gen 3 brings balance to my billet upper and lower which are coupled with an 18" .308 cal barrel. With the Magpul extra thick pad, LOP stretches out to 16.5 inches. On my bolt action rifle I like having the centerline of my scope being as close to the centerline of the barrel as possible. But on my AR's I prefer a bit higher.

Originally I purchased another manufacturer's stock which with extensions reached about 15.5 inches. But I ended up struggling with the weight (too light) and adjustability. The first guy's stock required being taken apart to some extent to adjust pull and cheek weld and it was clumsy in process.

The PRS is easy to adjust, which I like when changing shooting positions. I'm not a competition shooter (maybe someday), But I do like to practice from different positions and the ease of making changes is very convenient. That and the fact the weight brings a nicer balance to my large frame build.

That said, the expense. This stock cost almost twice as much as the other guy's. This stock offers value, butt....

In the end I have a rifle with about $400 invested in buttstock.... Lesson learned. But I am glad I have this stock. Much better than the other guy's.
Pros:
  • easily adjustable
Cons:
  • price
Best Used for:
  • large frame large cal
