Gman's Review of Meprolight Mepro MX3 3x Magnifying Scope for Reflex & Red Dot Sights

This review is for the MX3-F(lip) magnifier. I mated it to a IWI X95 with Mepro MOR V/IR bullseye optic. First, I waffled between the flip version and the fixed picatinny rail mounted model because the flip version is not Mil-Spec rated. The flip version is not armored like either of the Mil-Spec fixed models. The flip model has a dark shiny black matte finish vs the dull matte grey/black finish of the fixed versions which looks slightly out of place on the X95. I rolled the dice on the flip model as I thought it would be more versatile having the reticle centering knobs and ability to flip out of the way when not in use verses having to carry it separately and put it on and take it off to use just the MOR. I’m glad I went with the flip as I don’t thing the MOR reticle would have been centered in the fixed magnifier version with my mount (long neck). The adjustment knobs on the flip came in handy for centering the MOR reticle. Even though the flip model of the MX3 is not Mil-Spec, it is stoutly made and the flip pivot is solid with no perceptible slop. Of course the fixed verion(s) of the magnifier would probably take more abuse as there are no moving parts...but I wouldn’t have any qualms running the flip model in adverse conditions. The only two negatives I see are the finish will show wear easier and there is a possibility that the adjustment knobs could get knocked out of whack as the adjustment detents are not super snug.

The magnifier appears to made in Israel although no where on the box or optic does it specifically say so. My flip version came with a instruction booklet, neoprene cover and lens cloth. QR base is adjustable for tightness on the picatinny rail by releasing the cam lever (which has a release lock feature), pulling the cam lever outward which pulls a locking pin down on the opposing adjustment wheel. Tighten/loosen the adjustment wheel as needed and release QR lever so pin goes between notches in adjustment wheel. There is a reviewer who states you need a different mounting base for the X95 model. This is not true. If you are using any Tavor model (SAR or X95) with a picatinny top rail and are mating this magnifier with any MEPRO red dot sight (MOR, M21 or RDS) you are good to go. If you have the 1st Gen IDF model of the Tavor (SAR not X95) with the hard mounted red dot, then you will need to purchase the fixed IDF MX3 magnifier that specifies “IDF” mount. If you are using another brand of optic the fixed model may not center on your optic reticle. The flip model with adjustment knobs for centering the optic reticle would be the way to go. The flip feature is set up for a right hand shooter. The push button flip release is easily manipulated with the left/support hand. It does not appear that the mechanism can be reversed for a lefty.

Shooting with the MX3 Flip makes for more accurate shots at any range from 25M out to 300m. Reticle remains crisp at all distances. There is a diopter adjustment of +2/-2 to sharpen the view. I was able to obtain groups that were 1/2 the size of my normal at the above ranges with the magnifier vs without. I have put 1000 rounds plus using the MX3-F and it has remained solidly fixed to the rail requiring no adjustment. So far I have been very pleased with this magnifier. I have used various MEPRO products over the years and have never been disappointed. My intital concerns about this magnifier not being Mil-Spec have been put to rest.
Pros:
  • Flip feature

  • QR Picatinny mount
  • Made for Tavor/Mepro
Cons:
  • Not armored
  • Non Mil-Spec
Best Used for:
  • Home Defense
