I have a legacy Mantis X system that I have used for years and have let others use to practice/develop their skills. When the new X10 came out, I decided to sell my legacy unit to a friend and upgrade to the latest.
The smaller, lighter X10 unit does everything the legacy unit does and more. The additional feedback for things like draw analysis is really helpful when working on the draw stroke with newer shooters as well as keeps me accountable that i am not slipping back into bad habits.
While i liked the cross bar screw on the legacy unit, the spring loaded tab hasn't been an issue and i do appreciate the ability to install or remove the device without needing tools. This is especially nice since now I move the Mantis between my full size guns and smaller setups like the G43X (using the mag rail adapter) or onto my rifle.
While you don't need this to dry fire, it definitely gives you a ton of useful feedback and more importantly makes dry fire interesting so that you are more likely to continue to put in the time. Whether you are competing against yourself for the patches or against friends in your group, it keeps you engaged and motivated.
The X10 is a great foundational tool that you can scale up your dry fire program. Pairing this with the Blackbeard system for rifles or a dryfiremag for pistols allows you to focus on the fundamentals and not need to be constantly manually resetting the action. Add in the Laser Academy and you have a complete dry fire regimen from the draw to the trigger press to target transitions.
With ammo prices being so high and likely never returning to what they once were, dry fire becomes more essential every day. The ability to develop skills and keep them sharp without spending time and money at the range is invaluable.
Whether you are a casual shooter, serious competitor, or utilize a firearm for a living the MantisX is an unbelievable tool that can help you take your dry fire regimen to the next level.
