MOHdds's Review of Mantis X X10 Elite Shooting Performance System

This is by far the best device I’ve ever used to train for overall trigger control and gun movement during the firing process. I use it both during dry fire practice to check technique prior to range sessions, as well as during live fire to check how dry fire practice translates to real world results at the range. I cannot speak to how well the rifle/shotgun barrel adapter works, nor how well it works with a bow as i have only used it on my HD Glock 19 but it’s sensitivity and feedback has given me feedback that even the best instructors would not have been able to humanly detect. After only one month of use it has already paid for itself in ammo and range fee savings. Since I have a light/laser attached to the rail on my G19, I utilized the provided adhesive picatinny rail to attach it to the bottom of my dryfire mag. I also purchased a separate mag baseplate with the built-in rail to use during live fire practice at the range. This also allows for holster draw practice with your current holster. Although some have commented that during live fire, you may have some additional movement of the device if your mag has a little play on it, I have not found that to be a problem. Some have suggested a bit of tape around the mag to take up any slack that might cause the mag to move/vibrate due to live fire recoil separate from the movement of the gun itself. In my case, I did not find too much of a variation between dry and live fire readings. The software comes with so many training exercises that it may be a little intimidating when starting out. I suggest starting out with the Open Training exercise to concentrate mainly on basic trigger control to start. At home, I use an iPad to connect to due to the larger display which I preset with my dryfire specs (dry fire plus voice and visual feedback). I connect to my iPhone at the range which I have preset to the live fire settings. Connection via Bluetooth on both devices is fast and reliable. The amount of information that this device/software can give you can be a little overwhelming at first but there are several YouTube videos available that can help you navigate all the screens and options. Once you learn to navigate the software, I found that it was actually very well organized (although admittedly, not entirely intuitive). If I could only have one training aid to enhance my shooting skills, this would be it. It is further enhanced by combining it with my Dry Fire mag/laser combo. While I have the Mantis Laser Training Academy in addition to the Mantis X Elite system, because setting up the Mantis Laser Training Academy (targets plus phone camera etc on a tripod) is a bit of a hassle, especially if you don’t have an area at home where you can just leave it set up, I found I was using the Mantis X system much more often, and when I did use it in combination with the Dry Fire mag/laser combo, I would just use electronic laser targets which could be quickly and easily set up and moved around anywhere, rather than having to set up the Laser Academy targets and get my phone camera supported and aligned properly. That being said, the Mantis X has become my go to device for feedback both at home and the range due to its convenience and the amount and quality of the feedback it provides. Highly recommended.
