first time opticsplanet buyer's Review of Marbles Camp Axe
DO NOT PURCHASE FROM OPTICS PLANET IMAGES ONLY. HERE IS SHOWN THE MOST QUALITY SAMPLE FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE GRIND IS NOT THIS HIGH, HANDLE NOT SO STRAIGHT, AND DEF. NOT AS SHARP AS SHOWN.
My order was for this camp axe and 1 Vargo bot. I paid for 3 day shipping and my package arrived 10 days after dater of order. Very disappointed with Optics P shipping. (they send through USPS!) 3 days really means 10 days. The camp axe itself has issues. First off the handle; this is very poor grain orientation, (handle grain runs 45 degree angle to the cutting edge. The handle is 16" 1/4 from top of axe head to bottom of handle measuring 3/4" wide in the center at it's most thin point). This is personal pref. however it makes the axe very front heavy contributing to an awkward swing. Second; the handle is not fit to the axe head, ( there is wood filler used on top and bottom of head to "fill" cracks between the head and handle creating a weak point where it will most definitely come loose or break here). And THIRD; THIS AXE COMES FROM OPTICS PLANET IN A THIN BOX WITH NO MORE THAN A SINGLE PIECE OF TISSUE PAPER TAPED AROUND THE CUTTING EDGE. WHY DOES THIS MATTER? WELL UPON REMOVING THE PAPER OUT OF THE BOX THERE ARE NOT ONE, NOT TWO; BUT THREE DEEP CHIPS IN THE ACTUAL CUT EDGE ITSELF! THIS WAS MOST LIKELY FAULT OF THE MANUFACTURER BEING THEY DO NOT PROTECT THE CUTTING EDGE ONCE GROUND LEAVING ROOM FOR HUMAN ERROR SUCH AS DROPPING THE PRODUCT CAUSING DAMAGE. if this is not the case, then it was ground then swung on a surface that is harder than the tempered edge. EITHER WAY I AM DISAPPOINTED WITH THE PARTICULAR PRODUCT I HAVE RECIEVED. Even the lanyard hole drilled in the bottom along with the counter sink is way off (crooked, off center, loose grain still in hole, like it has been crafted by a young child), overall it seems like the handles are garbage; the head is decent, but the manufacturer needs to protect the cutting edge once ground. you will need to sharpen this product.
