Expert-ish's Review of March Scopes High Master Wide Angle 5-42x56mm Rifle Scopes, 34mm Tube, First Focal Plane

I've had this scope for about 7 months now, I put it on a custom rifle I had built for PRS style competition. In the past every single scope I bought had an "L" on it and I'm sure I'll buy more of those, but the guy who built my rifle, being a world record holder and bench rest hall of famer, said he likes March so I thought I'd listen to him and give 'em a try. WOW! The quality feel and fit & finish are fantastic right out of the box, though the scope feels lighter than I expected. The elevation and windage dials, the side focus, the locks, the zoom ring, every single moving part works flawlessly and the clicks and locks are perfect, not mushy, and instill confidence that they are doing exactly what they are supposed to do. The biggest reason for my rifle builders endorsement of this product was repeatability, so the first time I took it to the range, I tried a little experiment. I got it dialed in at 100 yds and then on a clean target I took a shot dialed it up 2 mils, took a shot up 2 more until I had 5 shot in a vertical line and then I went back down. I was very impressed that each shot on the way down landed in the same hole except one and I'm sure that was my fault, not the scopes. So I know that's not much of a test, at 100 yds how can you miss and I didn't even play with the windage. I know that if you really wanted to test this scope you'd hand it to a real sniper and let him abuse it and then report on it's performance. I have not shot past 700yds so I have not experienced the degraded image quality that may occur when you reach the outer limits, and shooting a 6.5 Creedmoor I probably never will... I can tell you this - The glass is fantastic, the images are clear and sharp, the reticle is clear and sharp, the scope is beautiful and the quality is very evident. I have had the unique opportunity to shoot all of what would be considered the best scopes in the world except for one (I'm trying) and I would put this scope right up at the top with the best. Now, I do have to include in this review, a bit about the accessories that come with the scope. The scope covers and the throw lever for the zoom adjustment appear to be an afterthought. They are not of the same quality that the scope is (small potatoes). Anyway, I give this scope a thumbs up. I'm glad I bought it, and if I build a longer range rifle, I'll probably go with another March. Fantastic.
Pros:
  • Very high quality.
  • Instills confidence.
  • excellent glass giving perfect images.
Cons:
  • accessories are not so excellent.
Best Used for:
  • PRS or NRL competition
  • Shooting full cheap soda cans at 700 yds.
