Strong velcro holds it in place. Elastic holds items well but seems a bit thin and looks like it could wear out easily if overstretched or held an item for too long of a period (month). Mine holds a flashlight (Surefire), knife (Kershaw), and a candy bar (Snickers King Size).
Pros: Versatility
Cons: Four holders would be better, elastic holder seems thin
