Most Helpful Negative Review I Have One
First thing you'll have to do if you keep it is buy a 2x Barlow lens if not just buy a good set of binoculars you'll see much more,The scope is very unstable but if you have allot of patience you can work with it, I have a 60mm refracting scope that I gave 79.99 for that's much better and not as sha...

You can build a dobsonian for this sweetie.

by Hold on to this sweetie., from OK, United States Written on October 16, 2021
You will love the high contrast tight star images that pop into view around m13. But... you will have to pardon me for slamming this very poor German equatorial mount. Everything was great and I put up with all the little issues normally encountered with a mount of this type. Then the polar axis adjustment slipped with the little T-handle not up to locking back to any latitude! However, since I have some tools, I can keep the tripod and build an alti azimuth on top of it. The legs can be spead out more when lower strut system is loosened and pushed up. Regards to all. RC
Pros:
  • good optics
  • Nice looking
  • Spherical mirror works great.
Cons:
  • Mount requires real practice, but morso is not suitable and has design problems.

Meade 114 EQ ASTR Kit

by Legacy Reviewer, from WA, United States Written on September 4, 2010
Excellent first scope. Best eyepiece I've seen in a beginner scope. Works best with the lower power eyepiece.
Pros: A lot of bang for the buck.
Cons: Will need a "handy" adult to set it up.

Beginner Telescope

by Legacy Reviewer, from WA, United States Written on January 4, 2009
The instruction booklet is a little vague. We were able to align the red dot finder and view the moon. We have not been able to view stars. They just look like bright lights and we have not been able to bring them into focus. We definitely need some more help, but the website is not any better than the booklet.
Pros: Easy to assemble
Cons: Not sure how to use it, the instructions are vague.

Excellent value

by Legacy Reviewer, from WA, United States Written on December 29, 2008
My 10 year old son asked for a telescope for Christmas; after reading many reviews I decided on this model and was thrilled at the price I found on this site. He also asked for a microscope so having that product included free was even greater. Both he and my husband are very happy and are also looking forward to the free subscription to the magazine.
Pros: Good product, shipping very fast

Great Scope For The Money

by Legacy Reviewer, from WA, United States Written on July 21, 2008
I was nervous about getting my first reflector scope, but this scope, and Meade as a company, has set my mind at ease. Easy to set up, easy to use, and came nearly perfectly collimated. On first light, I saw Jupiter and it's four moons easily. Can't wait for more!
Pros: Great price for the quality! Easy to setup and use.
Cons: A bit of vibration in the viewing field when bumped, but let it settle, and it's a champ.
