GP's Review of Meopta Optika6 3-18x50mm 30mm Tube Rifle Scope

Very bright glass with the ability to cut through heavy mirage. Magnification range is perfect. The reticle is excellent for low to mid magnification. Remember the intended use of this scope was not meant for ultra high precision shooting in terms of windage hold.

After performing a few tests I took this scope out for a 100yd zero and then hit the 600yd line. I started with my tikka t3x A1 with a Tenmile 5-50x56mm. The mirage was so heavy since we recently had heavy rain and the ground was still fairly saturated with 89 degree weather. I backed the magnification down from 30 to 20 and then to approximately 18x. I then took out my Howa 1500 with the Optika 6 3-18x50mm MRAD1. Holy xxxx! Other than a smaller field of view I think this scope out performed the Tenmile (ED glass) at 18x. Mirage was easily cut through with this Meopta.

Chromatic aberration was very very minimal at 18x. For those of you dealing with bad chromatic aberration, make sure you have at least a 20 MOA rail or mount to help bring back your optical center. This scope, being a 30mm tube, does not have a lot of elevation so a 20 MOA (min) rail helps it center back up.

The colors are bright and vivid but color contrast is not at the top of its class (this probably goes to PST G2). What this scope does have is exceptional edge to edge resolution (with a 20 MOA cant) and a bright image. The image is so bright it beats my Tenmile 5-50x and Optika 6 5-30x which are both 56mm objectives. The clarity was so great that I even used this scope to spot my 5.56 hits at 600yds.

Wind holds required for the day were only .2-.4mils at 600 yards. I dialed up 3.5mils (Berger 130g OTM) and never missed a 8” plate over 10 shots. If I needed more windage I would opt to use the holdover instead of dialing elevation as the holdover tree has unobstructed windage points (center has a large horseshoe).

People gripe about the horseshoe but there is something to be said in how it helps you “frame” your target and really draws your eye to the center floating dot. Most 3-18x scopes have an unusable 3x in first focal plane but not this one. This scope gives you so much flexibility for either hunting or tactical style shooting. Remember, it wasn’t made to win an F3 or bench-rest competition.

The turrets are excellent and tracking was within 1% accuracy (10mil box test). The downside is that it is in a 30mm tube so the elevation range for 1k+ distances will be lacking should you choose to dial. The 6 mil mark on the drop reticle is about as much as I would want to use at 18x but backed off to 10-12x I feel like the entire reticle is useable.

You really cannot go wrong with this scope. I believe it sits on or near the top of the 3-18 magnification range scopes.
