Mike's Review of Meprolight MEPRO Foresight Red Dot Sight 1x20mm
Pros:
- The Foresight gives you a hint of the future in red dot optics
- You can select five reticules from a bunch of reticules on Meprolight smartphone app
- You can setup multiple profiles on the Meprolight (multiple weapons).
Cons:
- Not MIL-spec rated. Meprolight does not provide ANY valuable specs and that's because they don't want you to know the ugly truth.
- Sight firmware is glitchy.
- Poor quality display: There's a lot of green light leaking all around the display, it's extremely annoying.
- The display compass gives Magnetic North and you cannot manually adjust it for True North.
- Two years later Meprolight hasn't figure out to make the "shot counter" feature works. They finally release it in 2019 or 2020 and it was totally not working. So, they deleted the feature in the subsequent firmware update. And this feature is nowhere to be seen since.
- Rechargeable battery is not replaceable, ever, by anyone, unless you crack open the housing. Even Meprolight themselves won't replace the battery, I've asked them twice already about it. Their answer to me was: Don’t worry, the battery should last years.
- For the automatic digital zero feature you need to download an iOS / Android app that cost 8.99$ a year. Not a one-time 8.99$ purchase! But a yearly fee of 8.99$!
I bought it because the salesman told me it was MIL-spec like all the other Meprolight optics. Oh boy it's not! After harassing a Meprolight rep with dozens and dozens of emails I finally got the truth. The Foresight was never designed for the military or the law enforcement. This model has no MIL-spec rating because it's never been tested for water penetration, humidity, altitude, sand, snow, ice, drop test, etcetera. Nothing!
Meprolight use is excellent reputation regarding their combat proven optics to sell you the Foresight, a toy, sold at a premium price, not combat ready, not MIL-spec rated, with a glitchy firmware, with a poor-quality display.
