Ben's Review of Mesa Tactical Urbino Pistol Grip Stock

The stock is great and does fit my 940 JM PRO if you were wondering. The instructions are good and the grip and recoil pad (limbsaver is what I purchased) are very comfortable. Length of pull is much shorter than some other pistol grip stocks so I would keep that in mind for the user, but also important to note that you will need to change out your recoil spring and tube for mossberg 930/940s and other mossbergs. Usually not too big of a deal and they include the parts...minus one.

Basically you need to remove the glued in recoil tube from a steel bushing in the aluminum housing, and it does always come out. They know this is a problem and used to include the bushing but now do not. They will mail it for free so I would get it. I heated mine with a heat gun then a torch to try to break down the glue, but even then the bushing came out. I was able to clamp the bushing and heat some more and get it out. In the process pretty much destroyed the stock tube.

So in summary order that right away before attempting to install, and use a heat gun. Also when putting the tube on follow the directions for putting the tube on with spring already mounted, it seemed strange why they said to do this when I can just install it later, but the design of the bolt "tail" that goes into the spring holder will bind if you dont guide it in the spring tube when installing, had to pull it apart and do it the right way otherwise you wont be able to move the bolt.
Pros:
  • Durability
  • Quality
  • Comfortable
  • Good Instructions
Cons:
  • Weight (but expected and accounted for)
  • Price $$$ - unfortunately good things come out a price.
  • additional part needed for easier installation
  • Untreated/uncoated steel accessory bolts can rust
Best Used for:
  • Cool shotguns
