Ur Moma's Review of Mid-Evil Industries Overwatch Commander Quick Detach Tripod/Monopod Modular System Direct Connect
Mid evil product review
Saw this at a gun show recently. I met the inventor, and I believe his son. He was the best sales man and does competition shooting with his products. He answered my slew of questions until I don’t think he could take any more.
I saw the full kit, normally $1,200 on their website half off basically. I had to jump on it. $606 plus $50 tax, free shipping on Dvor. Basically Optics Planet but on clearance.
I haven’t even used it on my rifle but I gotta say wow. It’s got the commander legs which are a lot better than the basic model. It’s literally the best bipod system on the market.
The leg and extensions are carbon, the inter leg poles that extend are carbon. The main weight feels like it’s coming from the steel bolts and attachment points. Most of the parts look or feel like aluminum. The hinge points for the legs are a plastic ratchet.
What really sold me of the ball detent system. Just the mini grip, and the mini bipod is enough
(The Prediator Package QD Tripod modular system $290)
and probably all I wanted. At the same time I got this great deal with literally the whole package, the whole sha-bang.
Only thing I can think of is the Picatiny mount requires an Allen wrench. It is not a QD system to attach to the weapons rail. The rest of the system is completely modular and sealable.
It seems like the bottom plug or rubber/steel grommet at the very bottom that is for stability had some rusting starting on the threads. I would keep any stainless shinny steel parts in lube/grease.
The overwatch Commander leg system is far superior or stronger than the original regular overwatch, jet they are using a fairly similar aluminum legging as the rest of the versions of the top small tripod.
I believe they would have a strong warranty on their product, if anything got badly damaged I believe they would replace for a small fee. The owner is a small company of this start up business and originally from California, where he made the TX3 Tactical takedown tool to make using a rifle easier in Cali Fornication. I believe most of the parts are made in China and some in America.
Doesn’t show in the picture but came with small paper instruction diagram for quick explanation, 3 Aluminum tripod leg adapters for the QD tripod and a really nice camera mount. This can used for Night vision, Range finders, spotting scopes, ect.
Over all I’m extremely happy with Optics Planet or Dvor, their shipping with USPS came promptly and quickly even with free shipping. The price is amazing and the quality is great.
Overall I don’t have a scale but the whole system feels like it nearly weighs under 10Lbs in the bag.... also they gave a 28” bag with one main compartment, with outer pouches. It’s a range bag for the system but isn’t designed for a weapon. Feels high quality, came with a patch. Has two straps inside with angled arms to help hold the tripod system when separated in two. Made in China.
I’ve looked at dozens of tripods, only other options that could have come close before were the MDT GRND Pod, Leapers UTG Over Bore bipod, or the FAB Defense Spike, possibly a modified Harris bipod. Thing is this system combines a modular rotatable tripod, with a bipod system. Your able to stand up in any position, in any angle and don’t rely on a structure to shoot from.
My tripod serial number is 44,000 and the lower commander number is 34,000. I believe they have sold most units to Law Enforcement.
