Utterly abominable. - Motorola T460 Rechargeable 2 Way Radio, Pack of 2

After reading the reviews I was expecting great things from these radios. Does this radio have lots of neat features.....yes, yes it does. But I have several flashlights and an actual functioning weather radio. What I purchased these units for was COMMUNICATION. Something these radios are largely incapable of providing. Upon unboxing and setting up I found that per usual I had received someone else’s return as one of the radios was missing it’s belt clip. Feeling that I could easily request one from the manufacturer should these radios perform in a manner congruent with their stellar reviews I elected to proceed with a field test. On level wooded terrain these units lost communication after approximately 500 yards. While I didn’t expect the 35 advertised miles (mountain peak to mountain peak with perfect atmospheric conditions) I certainly expected better than 500 yards. These are strictly “line of sight” radios. In which case why bother. I can roll down the window and yell 500 yards. Not to mention the volume on these things is absolutely pathetically inadequate.

- Seem well made
- Affordable

Cons:
- Ridiculously inadequate range
- Terrible volume
- No reception in weather mode

Summation:
Save your money and get a couple of red solo cups and some kite string. They’ll work better than these radios.
