I have tested several ncstar scopes over the years. Some models have been an excellent value and others not worth even the low price. I can say without a doubt that this is the worst optic of any type, fom any maker, that I have ever seen. The fit and finish of the tube itself looks decent for the $9 I paid for it, but that's as good as it gets for this scope. I bought it to replace a cheap 4x20 scope I had on a compact air rifle. The scope that came with the air rifle was very dim and blurry, so I read reviews on this scope, and thinking it would be a solid upgrade, I purchased one. I couldn't have been more wrong. This scope is MUCH dimmer than even the junk scope that came with my air rifle. Even in broad daylight the image is so dark that the scope is basically useless. It is blurry, has terrible barrel distortion, and basically is garbage. I pulled the scope apart to see just why it is so terrible. The objective and ocular lenses themselves are not the culprit, though their retaining rings are poorly threaded and my objective lense was flopping around right out of the box. I had to glue it in place because the retaining ring was stripped from the factory. The image resolution is about what I expected for $9; bad. But, the reason the image is so very dim is that the center lens at the adjustment points is very undersized. It is literally less than half the diameter of any other .75" scope, and just doesn't let anywhere near enough light through. This was probably done to save a few pennies, but it basically renders the scope useless for anything other than a poor paper weight. Even if the scope wasn't worthless, the rings that came with it are so sloppily manufactured that when mounted, the scope cants way off to the left of the bore axis. So far off that the awful image seen through the scope is literally several feet off the point of impact. The design has many fundamental flaws that tell me I didn't just get a bad example, but that it is a poorly thought out and shabbily executed product. I cannot recommend this product to anyone for anything, unless the user never actually wants to mount it, look through it, or expect to hit anything with it. I can only assume from the good reviews that I read that this product's internals have either changed, or that the reviewers typed their reviews from a brail keyboard. To reitterate, this is a complete waste of money, and I would heavily recommend spending just $10-20 more and getting a budget 4x32 scope. Even the worst of this type that I have ever looked through will look like a Zeiss or Swarovski compared to this utterly dissappointing scope. I would also like to add that I did not purchase the scope from Opticsplanet, though I have purchased optics from them in the past, and they are an excellent company to do business with.
