GA Mtn Boy's Review of VISM Right Side Folding Stock Adapter

The VISM Folding Stock Adapter DLG-076 is an exact fit to replace the sling plug on the Rock Island Armory VRF14 firearm and create a folding butt stock. The VRF14 is made in Turkey and so is this adapter surprise surprise (reviews elsewhere indicate the VISM adapter is made in China-- probably because vism is a part of ncStar which is typically all made in China-- but the part is stamped Made in Turkey). If you own a RIA VRF14 and this review is helping you add a fixed or folding buttstock to your firearm after scouring the internet for hours and coming up short how about thanking me by giving this review of thumbs up (You're welcome). I feel like I should make a video post it on YouTube and become an internet sensation overnight because I could not find any information about how simple it is to modify the vrf14 with this little baby right here. Simply take off the rear sling point by removing the RIA 3/16 hex bolt. Set it aside in the AR parts graveyard with the product card from the packaging in a ziplock bag so that you can order another one, go back to stock if you ever want to, or tell your friends about me and how your new hero gave you the part number so you could order one too. Sheesh. OK so here's how to Install the VISM folding stock adapter: It comes with a 5/32 hex bolt and molded in nylock nut. The fit is perfect on polymer d-shaped cut out but the new 5/32 hex bolt when tightened fully may ever so slightly flex the factory hole in the stock of the VRF14. That is probably a good thing (thats what she said) if you are going for a permanent or long-term install given how much kick short firearms and shotguns have. That's it! That is all there is to installing this modification. I do not recommend using Loctite on this installation because of the nylon locking nut. Loctite has a tendency to quickly and completely degrade any kind of plastic or rubber. If you are determined to use Loctite (I love the stuff frankly) simply remove the Nylock nut and replace it with a traditional nut of the correct size and thread count/pitch, lock washer, and red loctite that baby down. The polymer construction seems to be very strong. The hinge has a compression spring over the hinge bolt, a hump/bump style threshold and defined gradient slope lock. The three design components combined seem to provide a good locked open and locked closed operation that is not going to flop during closed/folded carry or firing opened. Time will tell if this design is durable but for the low cost, it could easily be replaced if worn by constant folding in heavy duty service applications. To state the obvious, this hinge, when folded "closed," will put the tube directly in line with the chamber. The tube that is a factory fit with this folding stock adapter is the VISM "Grip Adapt Telestock Tube VG094". At the time of this review the technical details in the description state that this part fits "DLG Tactical Adaptor Grips" and "It also works with telescoping stock tube DLG-094" but I am unable to find any such animals at the moment. The correct part with grammatically incorrect description is "grip adapt telestock tube vg094" and can be found here on Optics Planet. Currently it seems to be frequently on backorder. I have not written a review for that part yet but it features the same large downward facing "D" shape consistent with the mounting surface of this part. The VG094 appears designed to accept any traditional AR tube style butt stock. I don't have the part number at the time of this riding but there is a fixed stock version of this as well if you prefer a permanent and non folding option. A permanent non-folding option maybe worth considering given that, when folded, this style will likely place the buttstock right against the boalt carrier release. In any case I'm super excited to finally find the mysterious part that can add a stock to the RIA VRF14 after the firearm has been out for several years now. Happy spraying!
