nergy's Review of NcSTAR Mark III Tactical Series Generation 2

First saw this at a gun show in Albuquerque. Appreciated the 3" eye relief and the easy mounting. Bought a second one a month later. Actually had serious issues with the first scope. It wouldn't hold zero and the up/down adjustment came unglued. Sent it back to NcStar and received a brand new one in a week - excellent customer service on the phone and, in actuality. Mounted one scope on an AK and the other on an AR. Both have held zero through over 200 rounds and, there have been no further issues with functionality.

Optics are clear throughout the magnification spectrum (2x-7x) even with my old eyes. The BDC adjustment is accurate and useful at settings 1 and 2 for the AK and AR. BDC 3 & 4 are only useful on the AR. Reticle lines are so close they are almost obscuring. Believe that's an unpreventable issue with such a small scope (32mm objective). Probably a simple crosshair would be best given that the BDC does work and, at up to 200 yds., it's not at all difficult to anticipate windage/elevation adjustments on the fly. Can rapidly and accurately empty a 30 round magazine into a 6" target zone - certainly no negative offsets from the scope. Deliberately dropped the scope mounted rifles numerous times. Both of the scopes are shock proof.
Pros:
  • Clear optics
  • light weight
  • Great customer service
  • Easy mounting
  • Is indeed shock proof
  • Fairly priced
  • Looks cool
  • Practical scope
Cons:
  • Coarse crosshairs obscure target
  • Plan on using the warranty
Best Used for:
  • plinking
  • tactical practice
