Johnny B.'s Review of VISM LIO 4x34mm Illum Urban Tactical Rifle Scope

I have had this now for a little over 6 months. Was definitely skeptical of an optic made by NCSTAR. As I have had bad luck in the past, but so far I am pleased with this sub $100 optic.

I will at least post what I am using this on to at least let readers know its not mounted on an airsoft rifle. I have this mounted on a PTR308 and running a suppressor. If you know about this firearm, running a can on it increases bolt velocity and recoil. (not extremely) but more that your standard 556 that's for sure.

Its a great 4 power scope for the price point, and it has stayed zeroed for me. I cannot speak for removing it at putting it back on though. The cantilever mound holds it steady enough. Was not super impressed by the turrets on this optic either, but they work. I can say that the scope is fairly clear until you look at the outer edges of the glass. The reticle itself is really neat, but it is like a 4 moa dot. Really covers up the center of the targets at 100 yards. The brightness is kind of too dim for daytime and too bright for night time use. However at dusk it is great. The lights on the front are an added bonus for low light visibility. It also is worth pointing out that it can be turned off and when turned back on will go back to the last setting. No running through all the modes to get where you want.

Another complaint was the wire coming from the bottom spring in the battery compartment will get squashed by the battery itself. Which can cause the lights to turn off when the battery cover is bumped. However I hardly use the lights on this scope. I can say that there is an easy fix for this. I cut a thick o-ring so that it had a gap for the wire to pass between, but allowed the battery to be supported enough to operate the lights without fail.

Overall its good for the price at $100, it has held zero (at 100 yard) for over 150 rounds of 308. Would recommend giving it a try. Its also worth noting that it sits high enough to be mounted over a flip up rear sight on the same rail if you want to know if it fits over your backups.
Pros:
  • price (compared to other options)
  • eye relief
  • reticle appearance
  • lights
Cons:
  • Turret clicks are weak and can be hard to distinguish
  • Brightness adjustment range is not great
  • Clarity
Best Used for:
  • Plinking & target shooting
Would Recommend: Yes
