Phantom30's Review of Night Optics D-300 Gen 2+ Standard Night Vision Monocular

Nice unit. Shipped on time in a double supported carton around baby pelican box with foam cushions around unit. Box will support use of internal and external faraday bags. This is a Night Optics Ambia series unit with a GEN 2+ intensifier tube. My tube has six small black dots and a small black streak on the edge. The image is as advertised, clear resolution beyond 200 yards without the illuminator. That's as far as I can see in this urban environment. Can't wait to get it in a full rural setting. Mounts on USGI PVS-14 mounts both rifle and head gear. The unit mounts slightly off center because case size is slightly different that true PVS-14, but very usable. It does not have electrical contacts to match J arm, therefore, no automatic shut off when lifted up. But function selector switch is easy to use. My red dot on its lowest setting was way too bright for this unit. However, hands free USGI head mount and IR laser combination works very well together in passive mode. I can read instruction manual sitting in complete dark at my desk. Visible and IR lasers bloom under 10 yards. Head mount reduces system shock during firing. Long larger diameter flash hiders aid in muzzle flash reduction for better shot to shot image recovery. Mounting Lasers on handguard bottom rail in front of grip pod lessens geometry for reflection feedback into google. Can't speak to reliability but so far Best bang for the buck.
