Geo45's Review of Nikon Aculon A211 12x50mm Porro Prism Binocular
I bought this binocular about three weeks ago at Academy Sports. Academy has a large selection of binoculars on display, an important fact for me because I have an eye disease that makes most binoculars unusable for me. I have to try them out, and continue trying until I find one that works. The Nikon Aculon 211 worked very well, one of the few display models that did. A large reason for buying was to have them double as a spotting scope. At the range I found that .30 caliber holes are visible at 100 yards using standard targets, but just barely. I believe that they would be visible at 200 as well if shoot-n-see targets were utilized. Two cautions are called for here. First, it is recommended that users wanting a spotting function buy the tripod attachment available from Nikon and mount it on a tripod to stabilize the sight picture. At 100 yards, when holding the binoculars, every time your heart beats, the picture shakes and moves. This is not the fault of Nikon, it is the result of using higher magnification over long distances. Second, these binoculars are not rubber armored, and nothing in the users manual says anything about it being waterproof, so I would advise making sure it stays dry. Other than that, a great set of binoculars at a very reasonable price.
