gator's Review of Nikon Buckmasters II 3-9X40 BDC Rifle Scope
Nikon is recognized as one of the best in the optics business. I looked through a gamut of different name brand rifle scopes at all price levels. Nikon was easiest on the eyes, great eye relief, quick target acquisition, sharp focus throughout the zoom, superb light retention and the BDC reticle design was the easiest on my eye. I'm certain that once I enter my info at Spot On for the bullet drop compensation, the guidelines will be useful when I am practicing my aiming capabilities. Fully coated optics in this price range? No body else does this. The design of the power selector ring makes it quick and easy to locate and turn while looking through scope. The turrets work amazingly well with plenty of adjustment range and quality gears with old school zeroing knobs. Local shops carried the Prostaff starting at $189. I decided to compare online and discovered Optics Planet who's selection and prices are bar none (as well as knowledgeable staff available via chat, along with a phone number that connects you quickly with a real live person!) This is when I became aware of the Buckmaster, which many reviewers preferred and Optics Planet sells it for only $129 with free shipping upgraded to 2 day. This was a no brainer for a rifle scope of this quality and reliability with the Nikon name. I looked through scopes costing upwards of $500 and just didn't see it, literally. Can't imagine what a $3000 scope is suppose to be capable of.
Pros:
- Nikon reputation for optics
- light transmission
- Durablilty
- Quick target aquisition
- fully coated optics
- substantial eye relief
- sharp focus
- superb quality turrets
Cons:
- none so far
