These are great binoculars for bird watching - and anything else when you what a clear view. Nikon makes great optics. If the 8X42 fits your needs you cannot go wrong with these.
The build quality is obviously top flight and the grip on this model makes them easy to hold in any kind of weather. I've had other binoculars but none with this quality optics.
When I hand them to a friend to look through they are always impressed and make a note of the model with intentions on buying a pair for themselves.
