Most Helpful Positive Review k krause
Nice scope; Clear & sharp optics. Worked very well for me last deer season. Pros: 5" eye relief, 3-9x magnification. Cons: none for me
Most Helpful Negative Review Mediocore at best
I own several Nikon Prostaff scopes, a Nikon Monarch, Leupold VX-6, and a few others. I would place the optical quality of this scope below the Prostaff. The reticle is adequate and the adjustments were positive and repeatable, but the glass ruined it for me. Even at 100 yards, I was more impress...

Excellent scope

by RHT, from MI, United States Written on February 28, 2019
I have two of these, one mounted on an H&R Ultra Slug Hunter; one on a Remington 11-87--both 12 gauge. The H&R is my primary hunting gun. This combination is outstanding--one hole at 50 yards. And this translates into the field--I have taken 16 or so deer with this combination at ranges varying from 30 to 130 yards, mostly neck shots, over the last several years. This scope has held zero perfectly through being transporting between Michigan, where I currently live, and southern Illinois, where I grew up and hunt; hours at the range; and hunting in all kinds of weather, including rain and snow. A couple of years ago, I caught my toe on a fallen tree and fell with the gun which landed scope down--a quick trip to the range confirmed that zero hadn't shifted even with that (and have taken 4 deer since then, all one shot kills). This scope is very clear and bright as one would expect from Nikon glass; the reticle is quite functional. Overall, my experience with this scope has been outstanding. I own several optics of various manufacture--Luepold, Eotech, Vortex, Cabelas, and Nikon--and frankly, this scope is my favorite (before I purchased the H&R, I hunted with the 11-87 and Luepold's shotgun scope--took 5 deer with that combination, but replaced that scope with the Nikon because the Luepold wouldn't hold zero even after Luepold replaced the erector assy).
Pros:
  • bright, clear; durable.
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • hunting

Lots of eye relief

by Chris, from TX, United States Written on April 8, 2018
Great scope at a great price. It has very clear optics. I mounted this scope on my .450 bushmaster ar and its bdc reticle is a perfect fit with hornady 250 grain ammo. This scopes 5 inches of eye relief assures I shouldn’t get tagged with this gun recoil.

Good quality Scope for Shotgun

by Stratofisher, from IL, United States Written on January 22, 2018
So far the scope has been holding zero well on my Savage 220. Sighting in was quick and easy and there was plenty of adjustment to achieve a zero. Overall quality is about what you would expect from a scope at this price point. Given the relatively close ranges this works very well. Have only used for one season, but so far the scope is performing well. Never any fog issues or reason for concern. Great match for the Savage 220 using EGW rails and medium height rings. Perfect setup for one of the more popular slug guns.

Nikon slug hunter 3x 9 400mm

by Drock, from NC, United States Written on January 1, 2018
Awesome scope tracks well love it on my 444 marlin. Easy to mount. Nice piece of glass for deer hunting. Would recommend to any friend looking for a nice piece on a good quality scope. Grab for a in the woods fun, this is not a long range scope by any means but does the job for what it's intended to do.

SLUGHUNTER 3-9X40 BDC 200

by Scott, Verified Owner from MD, United States Written on September 16, 2017
This scope is a great scope and a very high value purchase. I am using it on my Model 37 Ithaca combo gun with Warne Medium Quick Detach rings. I am going to purchase a Nikon Shotgun scope and switch scopes on the same gun when I go from spring and fall turkey hunting to winter shot gun deer hunting in Iowa. My research tells me that these scopes will hold alignment and that I will not have to re-align after I remove then re-attach the scope for the following season. I will check this out to verify. This scope is very clear and I love the Nikon website that we give you the ballastics for each shot gun gauge given the field load used. Combine that with a Nikon range finder and you got some serious science built into your chances in the field.
Pros:
  • Great value!
Cons:
  • None that I can find to date.
Best Used for:
  • Deer, turkey, and hog hunting

Nikon Slughunter

by crg, from NJ, United States Written on February 7, 2017
I purchased this scope for a Savage 220F slug gun with the Savage mount for the 20 gauge gun. The scope works great and has good clear glass. The BDC reticle is great for hold over and getting on target fast.

Slughunter

by Jolly, Verified Owner from NJ, United States Written on March 26, 2016
I love this scope, I currently have 2 of these on both of my 20Ga slug and it accurate every time. Would buy this again if I have another one. It is good for deer hunting as still hunting either from ground or tree stand. Also it have 9x zoom, sometimes I forget my binocular and I can always use this scope as one before you decide to shoot. But of course you need to take it to the range and make some adjustment to perfect zero before you take it out to hunt. Good luck to whom want to buy this.
Best Used for:
  • big game hunting
  • Deer Hunting
  • Long range shooting and hunting

Nikon Slughunter

by Holland and Holland, from MN, United States Written on January 12, 2016
Typical Nikon, Solid value for a very decent deer hunting scope. Put it on a Savage bolt 20 gauge so it is not getting the pounding a 12 would give it but seems to hold zero well between range sessions. Bright and clear as one expects out of a Nikon. Good value for the money, about all one needs for slug gun hunting.
