packydb's Review of OpticsPlanet Exclusive OPMOD Atibal XP Tactical 1-6x24mm LPVO 30mm Tube Rifle Scope
Allow me to provide as useful and practical review as possible.
I was looking for a good solution for a 300 blackout short barreled pistol. After some searching around, this one seemed to have met all or most of my requirements. At the price that it was offered and given the mostly positive reviews, I took a chance on it.
THE GOOD
1 - The pull and turn turrets are a very nice feature, not really one you expect on a LPVO in this price class but nice nevertheless. Nice audible and tactile clicks. They are not perfect, see below.
2 - The lens clarity is good again for the price paid. While there is some edge distortion, it is on the very edge and doesn't matter to anyone who is using this for what it is designed.
3 - The build seems to be of good quality with nice wide turrets with good textures and good smooth matte finish that doesn't feel cheap.
4 - Comes with scope caps, throw lever, and *ahem* a sunshade.
5 - The set parallax seems to be correct and the extended range is also good. I have decent vision (not necessarily clarity) at 300 yds at full magnification.
THE MEH
1 - With scope caps and throw lever installed I read 18.6 oz. Basically in the middle of common ranges.
2 - The barrel distortion is not sufficiently corrected with diopter adjustment but still delivers decent parallax elimination at 1x in the center of the optic. i.e. you get less seasick sweeping the room. Not as good as the Vortex Crossfire II but still totally usable.
THE NOT SO WONDERFUL
1 - As with nearly all optics in this price range, the eyebox tends to be inflexible, both out of center parallax as well as eye relief. It requires tightly indexing to find your point of aim quickly. Not unexpected.
2 - Despite the turrets having nice features and good audible clicks, the indexing is mushy and does not bottom out at the click point, but rather allows some freedom of movement in between clicks.
3 - The reticle is BIG. And because its a SFP, its very clear that this one was designed for speed, but there are a great many subtensions available if you want to slow down, but the markings are thick, but ... well we'll call it reasonably flexible. And once more, still good for the price.
4 - The illumination is weak. It is in a very useful range for dusk and dawn hunting, but not so much for tactical use. It washes out immediately in sunlight at its brightest setting.
I also chanced a spec feature in that OP shows the click value as being 1/5 of a MIL. That would be roughly 2/3 MOA. The thought was this could be used on a 3 gun rifle instead of the 300 BO pistol if the adjustment was too loose for hunting. In any case, the scope I received adjusts in 1/2 MOA increments. I feel better about this.
The best way to describe what I got is this... Not good, not great, but better than adequate and it feels good. If you want to spend less than $200, you may not find better, depending on what features are important to you. I want to use this for subsonic 300 blackout at ranges between 50 and 150 yards, with a short barrel. This mitigates the issues with the turrets, lens distortion. I can live with the eyebox, the size of the reticle, and the illumination is a 1st world problem.
The remaining questions will be, does it track, does it hold zero, does it stay together. Stay tuned.
