Expert Review

Best of Both Worlds

by Claytonian, Gear Expert from KS, United States Written on November 18, 2022
I have several muzzle devices, but linear compensators are new to me in the last year. I really stand by them now! Kaw Valley is one of very few companies that actually make them. I have several of their linear compensators from them, but this Hybrid-K is the bees knees. It mixes the benefits of a linear compensator but also features vertical ports, which give the benefits of a standard compensator. I love the reduced recoil. I think it also looks sick at the end of my barrel. I highly recommend.
Most Helpful Positive Review Reduced Sound
Looks cool but all it does in my case for a 18" 308 is project the sound forward. The recoil was greatly affected after taking off my M4-72 brake and trying this. My rig is 12 pounds total, a bench blaster, and found it dancing alot with the Kaw. For a 5.56 maybe okay. Yet the only benefit I see ...

Most Helpful Negative Review A Good V1, needs to be bigger
It’s a great concept but it’s too small. It needs to be about 50% bigger and have more or larger holes at the top to act as vertical compensator. I own multiple KAW Valley compensators and they work well. This one needs work.

I like it!

For all the whiners complaining about it not having a crush washer included, spend $1.99 and order one when you buy the comp. I did. I didn’t need it. My comp timed up perfectly. Probably dumb luck. It’s about twice the size of a GI flash suppressor. Looks good; at home. I bought it for use in conjunction with a FRT. It works well. It’s a good value. RJ. PS: I have a crush washer for sale.
Pros:
  • Looks and works good.
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • AR-15 FRT

Better than a flash hider!

Noticeable sound difference on my CZ Scorpion. Adds a little aesthetic to the gun. Can't really feel a difference in recoil as the Scorpion 9mm never really bucks that much. Especially with an SB folding stock. Easy to install with a crush washer. Used the back off and tighten method to line up the top holes. Make sure you lube the threads. Makes it easier.
Pros:
  • Looks cool
  • sound is carried forward
Cons:
  • None

linear comp

Fits great on .300 blackout. Paired with a slightly longer hand guard and it gives some serious presence to the rifle.

Kaw Valley Linear Compensator

by Skilly, Verified Owner from PA, United States Written on May 16, 2026
Very easy to install with a crush washer, installs in minutes and works really well I put about a 120 rounds through it and never had a problem. If you shoot a lot you can tell a slight difference in recoil, but overall this thing looks amazing on my AR.
Pros:
  • Easy installation and timing
Cons:
  • None
Would recommend: Yes

wasn’t sure what to expect

by rgb, Verified Owner from NM, United States Written on May 14, 2026
It works surprisingly well for .22 cb shorts, kind of like a puff.
For CCI velociters 40 gr, sounds similar to high velocity .22 lr. Without compensator.
Aguila 38 gr is slightly quieter than without the compensator, but not quiet.

I have it on my cricket .22 pistol with 10” barrel.

Good looking but small.

by Jesse, Verified Owner from IN, United States Written on April 30, 2026
I wanted this for my AR build. My hand guard is longer than my barrel so I was hoping it would be big enough to fill the open space around the barrel. It’s a smaller skinnier diameter than I expected. I love the look just looked goofy on my AR. I ended up put it on my Ruger 10/22 instead and looks and performs great on it.
Pros:
  • sleek design
Cons:
  • None

by Eric, Verified Owner from NM, United States Written on January 14, 2026
The muzzle device is solid construction put on a 17 hmr for a thread potecter. Then only reason for 3 stars is it did not come with shims, spacers or crush washers for clocking.i installed it in my gun and the compensator holes were upside down
Pros:
  • good construction
Cons:
  • No Shims Included
Would recommend: Yes
