Addicted to image-stabilization - Opticron Imagic IS 12x30mm Roof Prism Binocular

RCA's Review of Opticron Imagic IS 12x30mm Roof Prism Binocular
At 74 I have no use for an unstabilized binocular. And I have no patience for looking through a binocular without seeing all the detail available. If it's a live creature like a bird or lizard, I want to see their facial expression. So I won't bother comparing these binoculars with normal binoculars, which are obsolete to me.
These are the lightest and cheapest image-stabilized binoculars I've used in this power-rating. They're so light, I can't rest my elbows on my stomach and expect them to stay still, they move with every breath. Yet the image will remain statically clear. Only my Fujinon 14x IS binoculars are steadier, but they weigh 3 lbs. and have twice the image stabilization and cost twice as much. This bino has the nice feature of a toggle switch for IS, fast and easy. However the main focus barrel wheel is geared too fast for me, not creeping up on focus but usually shooting right past. This is probably something one can overcome with experience.
The optical difference between these 12x binos and my 14x Fujinon binos is the better clarity of picture from the Fuji's 40mm objective lenses, and slightly larger field. The difference in magnification is barely noticeable. I've only used my binos in broad daylight, so I can't comment on their dim-light proficiency. Nor can I comment on how long the batteries will last. So why did I buy two pair of these binos when I have 14x Fujinon IS binos? I give them to people who work for my local land trust who dedicate their lives to preserving my local environment which happens to be lousy with birds, and who live on non-profit wages. And they'll show them to donors who fund the land trust. My plan is to get people to use only IS binos so they don't feel the need to creep up on creatures because their image is too shaky. Leave the poor creatures unmolested.
