Andrew's Review of OpticsPlanet Exclusive Kinetic Development Group FN SCAR Folding Rifle Stock

I’ve put a lot of time behind different rifle stocks over the years, and the KDG FN SCAR Stock (sold only through OpticsPlanet) really does stand out in a crowded market. If you’re chasing something that blends strength, precision, and clean design, this one hits all three.
The first thing you notice is the build quality. The lines are sharp, the tolerances are tight, and the finish has that rare mix of rugged and refined. The hinge deserves special mention—it’s nitride-coated 17-4 stainless steel and locks up absolutely solid whether folded or extended. I’ve worked it hard, and it doesn’t loosen up. That alone makes it feel more purpose-built than a lot of “upgrade” parts out there.
Everything inside that matters is metal too: aluminum latch, aluminum spine, even the cheek riser button feels like it was machined with care instead of molded out of plastic. Adjustments are straightforward—seven length-of-pull settings in half-inch steps that you can actually cycle through one-handed, gloves or not. The cheek riser isn’t overcomplicated either: flat, plus a quarter, or plus a half inch. Nothing wild, but very usable and repeatable, which matters more to me than gimmicks.
The small touches make a difference in day-to-day use. Two QD sling points and a rear sling loop mean you’re ready to mount up however you like without hunting for adapters. The Santoprene butt-pad is nicely textured—enough grip to keep it planted during recoil or sustained fire, but not so aggressive that it snags gear. And the folding mechanism? It’s spring-locked, so it stays where you put it without relying on contact with the shell deflector. That’s a subtle but smart design call that keeps wear and tear down.
Compared to the factory SCAR stock—the infamous “Ugg boot”—this is slimmer and cleaner looking. Yes, it’s a touch heavier thanks to that steel hinge, but honestly, that’s a trade I’ll take for the added durability. One note: like with any SCAR accessory, gas tuning is still important. The metal butt plate has the potential to wear out the butt plate screws over time If your rifle is over-gassed, but this can happen with the OEM stock too, so don’t skip that step. Adding an enhanced buffer to help dampen the recoil is another consideration.
Price-wise, it’s not exactly inexpensive. But this is the kind of upgrade you buy once and keep. You’re getting all-metal internals, a rock-solid hinge, well-thought-out ergonomics, and true drop-in compatibility. It’s more than a cosmetic swap—it changes how the rifle feels and performs.
Bottom line: the KDG FN SCAR Stock isn’t just an accessory, it’s a serious enhancement. Precision, reliability, and fit and finish are all here in spades. If you’re building your SCAR for long-term performance and don’t want to deal with plastics or flex, this stock is one you’ll be glad you invested in.
