JEM's Review of Pachmayr Pistol Grip
I ordered this grip for my S&W 629 Classic with 6.5 inch barrel. It fits the gun perfectly, and is well finished. It is made of laminated wood (not rosewood) stained in an attractive reddish color that resembles the color of some rosewood grips I have seen. To me, it is also reminiscent of the color of wood stained in a cherry color.
The grip is wider across the back strap than most Pachmayr grips, so it will fit men with medium to large hands pretty well. I wear a size Large glove, and it fits me pretty well. For this large N frame revolver with heavy recoil, it would fit better for me if it were a little longer and fit on the revolver frame a little lower. As is, there is barely enough clearance between the trigger guard and my middle finger. So sometimes my finger gets rapped by the trigger guard. (This doesn't happen with other longer Pachmayr rubber grips.) Also, the grip is barely long enough to accomodate all 3 fingers.
The extra width of the grip helps give more control and comfort with the recoil of heavy loads.
