Legacy Reviewer's Review of Pelican 2620 HeadsUp Lite Hands Free Xenon/LED Flashlight
This is an example of a poorly made Chinese product being marketed in the US by a company that formerly turned out quality products. They missed the mark because of poor design and cheapness in manufacturing. In this case, the pivot has a lot of free movement and bobs when I walk, causing serious disorientation on dark mountain trails. Around the campsite, it is just annoying. The pivot assembly is made of plastic that is too thin and with poor fit of parts. The little plastic detent is too weak and loosely positioned to hold the lamp in place, even if the pivot were sturdy. If you tighten the screw to make the adjustment hold a position, the ear holding the nut will break, and you will have to send to China for a new part. Or apply a gob of Shoe Goo to hold the lamp head in one fixed position and live with it.
Other than the bobbing, I love the light. The combination of LEDs and Krypton in one headlamp is very useful, particularly for grilling meat, as switching to the Krypton bulb gives a good view of the done-ness of the meat, unlike an LED. And, unlike some LED headlamps, the LED beam spread is fairly wide, allowing reading large things like maps or newspapers.
The Xenon replacement lamp is overpriced and scarce.
Pelican has gone downhill. I can't believe they would put their name on such a poorly made product.
If they ever clean up their act on the strength and fit of the pivot and adjuster, I would give it five stars.
Pros: Everything else is great.
Cons: Poorly designed and constructed tilt mechanism
